Specializing in fine 18th-20th Century Japanese Woodblock Prints: Hoshi, Joichi (1911 - 1979) /
Joichi Hoshi was a Japanese printmaker best known for his depictions of trees in centered compositions. The trees are often shown leafless with monochromatic backgrounds, sometimes incorporating gold or silver leaf into the layers of the intricate woodblock process.

Hoshi used oil paints, so his works do not suffer fading the way most woodblock prints created with water-based paints do. Signed, numbered and titled at bottom in pencil. Number 300 in “Joichi Hoshi: Catalogue of all Tree Woodblock Prints.” Would work perfectly in a midcentury modern setting.
